Iran intensifies diplomacy as top envoy meets Putin amid efforts to end US-Israel conflict and stabilize fragile ceasefire in Middle East

Iran’s top diplomat has arrived in Russia as Tehran intensifies diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi set to hold key talks with President Vladimir Putin to strengthen coordination on regional and international developments and explore possible pathways toward de-escalation amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
At the same time, Iran is actively engaging in parallel backchannel diplomacy with Pakistan and Oman to prevent a return to full-scale conflict and to revive stalled negotiations, following a fragile ceasefire that was reached earlier this month but continues to face pressure over disputes linked to the Strait of Hormuz and restrictions on Iranian maritime movement.
Officials say the Moscow visit is focused on reviewing the latest situation on the ground, assessing the risks of renewed escalation, and discussing Iran’s conditions for any future negotiations, while Russia is expected to play a key role in shaping both diplomatic and strategic outcomes in the coming phase of the conflict.
Meanwhile, mediators including Pakistan are pushing for a broader regional framework involving Gulf countries to secure a more permanent end to hostilities, even as Washington and Tehran remain divided over terms for restarting talks and stabilizing the fragile ceasefire.
