SRH Crush RCB in Hyderabad Run-Fest, But Miss Out on Top-Two Finish
The IPL 2026 league stage
The IPL 2026 league stage delivered another high-scoring thriller as Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 55 runs in a batting spectacle at Hyderabad.
Batting first, SRH piled up a massive 255/4 with explosive half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen. Nitish Reddy provided the finishing touch with a fiery cameo in the death overs.
Hyderabad’s batting lineup dominated throughout the innings, leaving RCB bowlers helpless on what appeared to be one of the flattest pitches of the season. None of the six RCB bowlers managed to maintain an economy rate below 12 runs per over.
In reply, RCB started positively but failed to keep pace with the required rate as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Despite the defeat, RCB still managed to finish at the top of the points table.
One of the talking points after the match was Virat Kohli seemingly walking past Travis Head during the post-match handshakes, sparking fresh “handshakegate” discussions among fans online.
Adding to the entertainment, Travis Head also picked up his first IPL wicket in nine years after dismissing Rajat Patidar. Meanwhile, Heinrich Klaasen stunned fans by accelerating from 5 off 9 balls to a blistering 51 off 24 deliveries.
Interestingly, SRH’s victory margin was not enough to push them into the top two spots. Due to Net Run Rate calculations and earlier results in the tournament, Hyderabad narrowly missed the advantage despite their dominant win.
Elsewhere, Venkatesh Iyer continued his impressive run by succeeding in multiple batting roles, while cricket legend Chris Gayle made a surprise appearance at the stadium, delighting fans.
Looking ahead, Punjab Kings face a must-win clash against Lucknow Super Giants as they attempt to keep their playoff hopes alive.
