India got Whitewashed by New Zealand in the three-match Test Series Following their Unsuccessful 147-Run Chase on Day 3 of the Final Test in Mumbai on Sunday

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli out? BCCI set to take harsh calls on seniors post Australia Tests Report

India got whitewashed by New Zealand in the three-match Test series following their unsuccessful 147-run chase on Day 3 of the final Test in Mumbai on Sunday (Nov 3).

Thus, Kiwis became the first Test team to inflict a 3-0 whitewash over India in India.

Following this drubbing, BCCI is expected to take some tough calls with regard to the senior players' Test future after the upcoming Australia tour.

An informal discussion is likely to take place between BCCI bigwigs, chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and skipper Rohit Sharma about the way forward for an ageing team comprising Virat Kohli, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja.

The trio along with Rohit had an ordinary run in the NZ series, raising questions and, thus, the Australia tour could give a clear picture regarding their Test future.

"Stocks will be taken certainly and it could be of informal nature since the team leaves for Australia on November 10.

But this has been a huge debacle but, with Australia series round the corner and the squad already announced, there won't be any tinkering," a senior BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

"But if India doesn't qualify for WTC final in England, one can be rest assured that all four super seniors won't be on that flight to UK for the ensuing five-Test series.

In any case, all four have likely played their final Test at home together," the source further added.

After the humiliating series whitewash, captain Rohit was asked for his thoughts on India's Test future given the limited time left in his captaincy.

He stated, "Look, I don't think we can look that far ahead. It's important to focus on the next series, which is Australia."

"I'm not going to look beyond Australia series. Australia series, for us is now very, very important.

We will try and focus on that rather than thinking what happens after," he opined.

India's next Test assignment is a five-match Test series versus Australia, in Australia.

The forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) kicks off on Nov 22 in Perth.

India need four wins from their remaining five games in the WTC 2023-25 cycle to reach the final (to be held next year in June).
