Mitchell Marsh Set for BBL Return After Test Omission ????????

Mitchell Marsh is poised to make his BBL comeback for the Perth Scorchers after missing nearly three years of action. Dropped for the final Test against India, Marsh has been added to the squad to face Melbourne Renegades at Optus Stadium on Tuesday.

Jhye Richardson also rejoins the Scorchers after featuring in Australia’s Test squad, boosting their bowling attack.

Meanwhile, Travis Head has ruled out playing for Adelaide Strikers, citing fatigue after Australia’s Test series win. He plans to rest ahead of the Sri Lanka tour.

Marsh could extend his BBL stint if he’s not selected for the Sri Lanka series, giving Perth a key player in their title defense. His last BBL appearance was in January 2022, before ankle surgery paved the way for a Test comeback in the 2023 Ashes, where he impressed with a century at Headingley.

Other Test stars eyeing BBL action include:

  • Steven Smith (Sydney Sixers)
  • Marnus Labuschagne, Usman Khawaja (Brisbane Heat)
  • Alex Carey (Adelaide Strikers)
  • Nathan Lyon (Melbourne Renegades)
  • Sean Abbott (Sydney Sixers)

Scott Boland (Melbourne Stars) may be rested following his workload in the last two Tests.

Players reaching the BBL finals could miss out if selected for the Sri Lanka tour, which kicks off with a training camp in Dubai.
