Jebel Ali Port Hits New Monthly Container Handling Milestone
Jebel Ali Port achieved a new milestone in July by handling 1,400,000 TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units), surpassing its previous record from 2015. This accomplishment follows a robust first half of 2024, where the port managed 7.3 million TEUs, marking a 3.9 percent increase compared to the previous year.
The surge was primarily driven by strong inbound cargo from key Asian markets such as China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.
The ongoing expansion of Jafza has significantly contributed to the increased container traffic at Jebel Ali Port. Currently home to nearly 10,500 companies, Jafza continues to attract major international corporations. This influx bolsters trade volumes and supports economic diversification efforts in the region.
Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World Group, highlighted the port's long-standing role in regional trade and economic growth. He stated, "For over 45 years, Jebel Ali has been a catalyst for the growth of trade and the economy in Dubai and the wider region. As one of the largest and most efficient ports in the world, it remains a cornerstone of our global network, significantly contributing to Dubai's economic vision and regional trade. We are committed to building on this achievement, driving innovation, and further strengthening Dubai's position as a leading global trade hub."
Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO & Managing Director of DP World GCC, emphasized the importance of strategic investments in maintaining Jebel Ali Port's excellence in global trade. He remarked, "This new record at Jebel Ali Port highlights our commitment to excellence in global trade. The port's ability to consistently break new ground in container handling is a testament to the strategic investments we have made in technology, infrastructure and the robust trade environment in Jafza and Dubai. We anticipate continued growth as we leverage our global network and the promising trade opportunities arising from our national trade agreements."
Global Success
Jebel Ali's success is part of DP World's broader achievements globally. The group reported a total consolidated throughput of 42,580,000 TEUs for this period, reflecting a 6.8 percent increase compared to 2023.
The UAE's proactive approach through Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPAs) has played a crucial role in enhancing bilateral trade volumes. These agreements have reduced tariffs and improved market access while strengthening ties with global partners.
Recent agreements with countries like Chile, Mauritius, Colombia, and Korea are expected to further boost container traffic through Jebel Ali Port.
DP World's strategic initiatives continue to drive growth at Jebel Ali Port while supporting Dubai's vision as a leading global trade hub.
