CSK Finally Breaks Silence on Ravindra Jadeja Trade as Franchise Bids Emotional Goodbye to Veteran All-Rounder

The long-circulating speculation around Ravindra Jadeja’s future with the Chennai Super Kings was officially put to rest on Saturday morning. The Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council confirmed in a media release that Jadeja has been traded to the Rajasthan Royals for INR 14 crore, marking the end of an era for the star all-rounder at the five-time champions. Jadeja, originally retained by CSK for INR 18 crore ahead of IPL 2025, saw a revised amount as part of the trade agreement.

Alongside Jadeja, English all-rounder Sam Curran also made a move to the Royals, while CSK received Sanju Samson in return—one of the biggest trade shake-ups in recent IPL history.

Shortly after the announcement, CSK’s Managing Director Kasi Viswanathan addressed the franchise’s reasoning in an emotional video posted on CSK’s official social media channels. Viswanathan acknowledged that letting go of Jadeja—who has been an integral part of the team since 2012—was “one of the toughest decisions” the management has ever taken. Jadeja had played a key role in CSK’s 2023 title win, famously smashing 10 runs off the final two deliveries in the epic Ahmedabad final.

“It was an extremely difficult call,” Viswanathan said. “Jaddu has been one of the pillars of CSK’s success over the years. But considering the transition the team is going through, and looking at the long-term balance of the squad, the management had to take this tough decision.”

He further revealed that the franchise held detailed discussions with Jadeja before finalizing the move. “We always consult the players concerned. Only after mutual understanding and Jadeja’s comfort did we proceed with the trade.”

‘Fag end of career’ – Jadeja’s honest admission

Viswanathan opened up about his personal conversation with Jadeja, during which the all-rounder acknowledged that he may be nearing the “fag end” of his white-ball career.

“When I spoke to Jadeja, he was quite clear,” Viswanathan said. “He felt he was entering the later phase of his white-ball career and was open to taking a break from CSK and exploring an opportunity elsewhere.”

Acknowledging fan disappointment, Viswanathan emphasized that several CSK players are reaching the twilight of their careers, making it necessary for the franchise to rebuild over the next two seasons.

“We understand fans are emotional and upset. We’ve received countless messages already. But looking at our ageing group and the limitations of a mini-auction, the management felt this change was essential,” he concluded. “We are confident CSK will continue the consistency and performance the fans expect.”
