During his address at the G7 Outreach Session on Friday (June 14), Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for an end to the monopoly in technology in order to lay the foundation of an inclusive society.

He also called for prioritising the Global South's concerns, particularly Africa.

PM Modi recalled that it was a matter of honour for India that the African Union (AU) was admitted as a permanent member of the G20 under its presidency.

In these efforts, we have given high priority to Africa. We are proud that the G-20, under the chairmanship of India, made the African Union a permanent member,he said.


India has been contributing to the economic and social development, stability and security of all the countries of Africa, and will continue to do so in the future, PM Modi added.

Calling for an end to the monopoly in technology, in particular on artificial intelligence, he said, "We must make technology creative, not destructive. Only then will we be able to lay the foundation of an inclusive society. India is striving for a better future through this human-centric approach."

He underlined that India was among the few countries that formulated a national strategy on artificial intelligence.

Based on this strategy, we have launched the AI Mission this year. Its basic mantra is 'AI for All. As a founding member and lead chair of the global partnership for AI, we are promoting cooperation among all countries, he said.


Italian PM Meloni greets Indian counterpart Modi with namaste

Earlier in the day, PM Modi was welcomed by his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni to the G7 summit which is being held in Italy's Apulia. He arrived for the summit on Thursday (June 13) late night.
