The Eliminator of IPL 2026 brings two unpredictable sides face-to-face as Rajasthan Royals take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on May 27 at 7:30 PM IST.

Just 10 days ago, Rajasthan Royals looked completely out of rhythm. After a third straight defeat, skipper Riyan Parag openly questioned his team’s playoff credentials, saying RR did not deserve a top-four finish if they continued playing that way. Since then, the Royals have managed to steady themselves with two crucial victories, keeping their title hopes alive.

However, history is not entirely on RR’s side. Since the IPL introduced the playoff format, only one team has gone on to win the trophy after playing the Eliminator — the 2016 Sunrisers Hyderabad side. Ironically, it is SRH standing in their path once again.

SRH Carry Momentum and Dominance

Sunrisers Hyderabad enter the contest with confidence, having won six consecutive matches against RR since 2022. Their batting remains one of the most explosive in the tournament despite a shocking collapse for 86 against Gujarat Titans earlier in the season — a result that eventually cost them a top-two finish due to net run rate.

The opening duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma continues to be SRH’s biggest weapon. While Head’s recent scores of 0, 6, and 26 have raised concerns, the management remains confident about his impact in partnerships and powerplay aggression.

Archer vs Head: Battle to Watch

One of the biggest matchups of the Eliminator will feature Jofra Archer against Travis Head. In T20 cricket, Head scores at a strike rate above 160 against Archer, but the pacer has also dismissed him three times in just 33 deliveries.

Archer has been Rajasthan’s standout bowler this season, especially inside the powerplay, where his strike rate has been exceptional. RR will heavily rely on him to break SRH’s aggressive starts.

Injury Concerns for Rajasthan Royals

RR have a few fitness concerns ahead of the knockout clash. Skipper Riyan Parag and Ravindra Jadeja are dealing with minor niggles, though the team remains hopeful both will be available.

If Jadeja misses out, RR could turn to Ravi Bishnoi as the spin option. The Royals may also consider experienced pacer Sandeep Sharma depending on pitch conditions.

Mullanpur Pitch Report

The Mullanpur surface has heavily favored batters this season. Teams have consistently crossed the 200-run mark, with the average first innings total standing at 214. Punjab Kings even posted 250+ at the venue earlier this year.

Despite the high-scoring trend, spinners have enjoyed slightly better economy rates compared to pacers. With temperatures expected to remain above 40°C even during the evening, conditions could test player fitness throughout the game.

Match Prediction

On current momentum and recent head-to-head dominance, Sunrisers Hyderabad appear slightly ahead going into the Eliminator. However, RR’s explosive batting lineup and Archer’s powerplay threat make this a dangerous knockout battle where one individual performance could change everything.

The winner moves one step closer to the IPL 2026 final, while the loser’s campaign ends tonight.
