India Sends Major Humanitarian Relief to Sri Lanka Under Operation Sagar Bandhu
Colombo, November 29, 2025:India has dispatched significant humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah. Two Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft—C-130J Super Hercules and IL-76—landed in Colombo on Saturday carrying relief materials and specialised rescue personnel.
The IAF C-130J aircraft transported around 12 tonnes of relief supplies, including tents, tarpaulins, blankets, hygiene kits, and ready-to-eat food packets aimed at supporting affected families in the cyclone-hit regions.
In a separate mission, an IAF IL-76 aircraft arrived with 9 tonnes of additional relief material along with two Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams. The teams comprise 80 highly trained personnel from India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), equipped to assist in rescue, recovery, and humanitarian operations on the ground.
The deployment highlights India’s continued commitment to supporting Sri Lanka in times of crisis, strengthening the spirit of neighbourhood first and regional solidarity.
Operation Sagar Bandhu is part of India’s broader humanitarian outreach initiative, delivering timely assistance to nations across the Indian Ocean region.
