Beth Mooney back as Gujarat Giants captain
Australia batter Beth Mooney has been handed the leadership of Gujarat Giants once again ahead of the second sesaon of the Women's Premier League, that kicks off on February 23. Giants, who have a new head coach in Michael Klinger, have named Sneh Rana as Mooney's deputy. Rana had led the side in the inaugural season last year in the absence of Mooney who was ruled out after the first game due to an injury.
"I am delighted to be back with Gujarat Giants and grateful for the team's trust in me. We have a fantastic squad, and I am confident we will put up a good show. It is good WPL will be played in Bengaluru and New Delhi, which are new to the tournament," Mooney said.
"The second season of WPL will be another festival of cricket. That Beth is back as skipper is fantastic news, and I will do everything I can to support her. The squad is well-balanced, and we are in a good place as a team," Rana opined.
Gujarat Giants will open its campaign at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru against Mumbai Indians on February 25.

Gujarat Giants sign Lea Tahuhu as replacement for WPL 2024
New Zealand fast bowler Lea Tahuhu is set to join Gujarat Giants for the upcoming WPL season as a replacement. The 33-year-old comes in for Australian speedster Lauren Cheatle who was ruled out earlier this year owing to a neck injury. The latter will have to undergo a medical procedure, the recovery time of which isn't clear at the moment. Tahuhu joins Australia's Phoebe Litchfield and Scotland's Kathryn Bryce as the new overseas signings for the season.

Klinger joins Gujarat Giants for WPL 2024
Former Australia cricketer Michael Klinger has been appointed as the head coach of the Gujarat Giants ahead of the second season of the Women's Premier League, that begins on February 23 in Bangalore. He joins a backroom staff that has Mithali Raj as mentor and advisor and Nooshin Al Khadeer as bowling coach.
Klinger's most recent coaching assignment was with the Sydney Thunder in the Women's Big Bash League where he served as assistant coach. He was also the head coach of the Melbourne Renegades in the BBL from 2019 to 2021. As a player, he retired in 2019 as the BBL's highest ever run-getter.
"The Gujarat Giants have a chance to do something special in the Season 2 of the Women's Premier League. I am eagerly looking forward to working with cricketing legend in Mithali Raj, who has played a transformative role in women's cricket in India. Together with the Adani Sportsline family, Mithali Raj, and the rest of the team, I hope to take the team to ultimate glory," Klinger said.
Raj lauded the appointment too and reckoned the team will benefit from his expertise with the bat.
"Working with Michael will help bring out the best in the Gujarat Giants players. . His expertise with the bat is also well-known and will surely benefit some of the younger members of our team. We look forward to having Klinger in the dressing room. We are sure of attaining success with him as head coach," Raj said.
Gujarat Giants will kick-off their WPL campaign against Mumbai Indians on February 25.

The second season of the WPL will commence in Bengaluru on February 23, featuring a match between last year's finalists, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 pm.
As per the schedule drawn by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the second match will be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz. The final will be played on March 17, preceded by an Eliminatorgame on March 15. Both the games will be in Delhi.
