Limerick town to host Irish Billiards Championships
RATHKEALE Snooker and Billiards club will the host the Intermediate Billiards Championships,
Rathkeale Snooker and Billiards club will host the championships for the first time.
This is a first for the club which has a great history going back all the way to the 1950s when billiards was played in the old CYMS. Doors will open from 9.30am on both days and entry is free.
There will be two cups for the taking on the Saturday and Sunday, with local favourites Anthony O’Flaherty and Jason Dowling, of whom both currently represent the Irish National Billiards team will be competing for both cups.
Anthony holds the record for most titles winning an impressive six titles, Jason was unlucky on a few occasions but lost out most recently to Lloyd Myers from Cork in a very close final. Jason is in great form now and will also be competing at the Irish Open in Carlow on the weekend of April 12 -14 against the top players in the world, so he will be hoping to win.
Rathkeale Snooker club are going from strength to strength and have close to 40 members now and have both members Irish champion Jack O’Brien and Senior snooker champion Frank Sarsfield. Rathkeale Snooker club also hold the Limerick Intermediate Championships once a year which attracts 32 of the best snooker players in the county.
