Anshul Kamboj picks 10 wickets in an innings in Ranji Trophy, breaks 39-year-old record

Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj has become only the third bowler in Ranji Trophy history to pick up ten wickets in an innings.

His spell of 10/49 against Kerala came at the Chaudhry Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium in Lahli on Friday (Nov 15), helping him become the first bowler since Rajasthan's Pradeep Sunderam (10/78) against Vidarbha in 1985-86 to unlock this feat.

The right-arm seamer dismissed Kerala's Shoun Roger on the third day of Haryana’s fifth-round fixture at home to create history.

Besides them, the three Indian bowlers who attained a similar feat in first-class cricket were Subhash Gupte in 1954-55, Anil Kumble in 1998-99 and Debasis Mohanty in 2000-01.

Meanwhile, Kamboj picked up eight wickets on day two, needing only two early on day three to enter record books, which he accomplished soon after.

Kamboj, who recently represented India A in the ACC Emerging Asia Cup 2024 tournament held in Oman, began his domestic red-ball season with a banger, picking eight wickets in the Duleep Trophy, becoming second seamer after Mohanty (10/46) and Ashoke Dinda (8/123) to achieve this feat.

The opening bowler rose to the limelight last season when Haryana won the Vijay Hazare Trophy, while he was their leading wicket-taker, picking 17 wickets from ten matches.

He even had his breakthrough moment in the cash-rich IPL, where five-time champions Mumbai Indians bagged his services.

Before featuring for Mumbai in the IPL, Kamboj featured in only nine T20 matches;

In 15 List-A matches, Kamboj has picked 23 wickets.
